On May 12th, 2008, an earthquake registering 7.9 on the Richter scale struck China's Midwest region around 2 pm. In a blink of an eye, the powerful quake destroyed thousands of children's lives and left their schools in ruin. Some children were even killed or buried in the rubble of their own classrooms. The death toll is well over 69,000, with over 5,000,000 left homeless.
In the wake of this disaster, the Kansas City Chinese Association (KCCA) is calling for a massive fund raising campaign under its KCCA Hope Fund. Proceeds will be used towards school rebuilding and education assistance efforts in the earthquake zone.
